1. “THE ARTICLE”
I begin this section with a simple quote:
“Life is not a matter of milestones, but of moments”.
People of this Earth -
Cherish each day that you live. Ponder the wonder and beauty of this planet. It is the simple moments in life that one remembers. My mother, Doris Arnold used to say, “stop and smell the roses….life passes by so quickly”.
It was the year 1994, I was compelled to go through and organize my father, Kenneth Arnold’s old files. They were just a bunch of papers thrown into big boxes up in the garage attic. My parents had moved so many times since 1947, it was simply remarkable that any UFO material still existed.
I struggled with the weight and size of the boxes and moved them down a tall ladder. Just carrying these into the living room was a challenge. I began by sorting, stacking and filing the papers in folders by topic. Solving a mystery was on my mind and I was determined to find it. So here I was, searching, reading, filing and sorting. Maybe there was really an answer to why this flying saucer mystery had happened to “our family”.
The first thing I discovered. My father had been obsessed with solving this mystery forty seven years earlier. It was obvious when I uncovered the boxes full of big scrap books. They were just jammed packed with pasted articles. Then I came across the huge yellow sheets of construction paper (20” X 26”). He had run out of big scrap books and now was cutting and pasting on these. Ken Arnold was searching for any kind of clue. His goal was to solve the mystery of the flying saucers all by himself.
It was one of his new theories. He believed by cutting and pasting articles he might discover an answer by seeing a pattern. When I began unfolding these big yellow sheets, I wondered where he even found them. Carefully I unfolded them and began reading each one page by page. It was easy to figure out his theory. It was the subjects he chose that he had cut and pasted. Included with various other subjects, were the sightings of flying saucers. He was proving to himself, that strange things happened to other people too. The newspaper and magazine articles were the perfect place to find them.
It was a couple of days before I came across “The Article”. I read this small newspaper clipping at least four times. My father had written in his own hand the date the article had come out - 4/24/50. It was now 1950, and his scrap booking hobby had been going on for three years. After I read “The Article”, I thought hard, pondered and concluded in my thoughts…..
You have got to be kidding….why did anyone continue to have children after 1945? Wasn’t Albert Einstein some kind of scientific genius? I was 40 years old when I read this. On April 24, 1950 I had not even been born. Growing up in the 60’s, this atomic bomb education was not part of my high school curriculum.

After reading this, I went into emotional shock. I was compelled to keep going. I left the family room and walked out into the living room to go through more boxes. The next thing I found was a large article with a powerful picture of Robert Oppenheimer on the front cover. I thought, who was this? I read on…he was, “The Father of the Atomic Bomb”. He was named this because he headed the Los Alamos group of scientists who developed this nuclear weapon.
Robert Oppenheimer in the final days before the Trinity Test Site experiment slept only four hours a night. On July 16th, 1945 the bomb was raised to the test tower at Alamagordo, New Mexico. The stress of the project had taken a toll on his physical health. Oppenheimer had dropped from 145 to 115 pounds. As he peered into the darkened desert he was tired, fatigued and anxiety overwhelmed him. His first fear was that the bomb would not work. His second fear was if it did work, what would happen to the world.
When the explosion burst at 5:30 a.m., a majestic ball of fire pillared towards the blinded heavens. Words from the Bhagavad-Gita flashed in his mind: “If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One”. As the distant mountains roared with shock and sound waves, they echoed the explosions terror and fury. Robert Oppenheimer was compelled to say out loud, “I am become death, the destroyer of worlds”.

I continued my research and went to the Boise Public Library. I uncovered an article written by Robert Oppenheimer in 1945, “The Atomic Age”. He was honest and sincere. The President of the United States had issued him a warning. Science had become too dangerous and it was forbidden to talk or write about the reality of this subject. His second fear had become very real. He validated his personal conclusion in this simple drawing, Atomic Power, “Little Man, Where To?”
It was Robert Oppenheimer that chose the code name “Trinity” in mid-1944 for the test site. He wrote in his later years he had been reading John Donne, and was struck by his theme, 'resurrection through death'.
I thought, how strange that I found Robert Oppenheimer in my father’s files. He was named “The Father of the Atomic Bomb”, my father was named, “The Father of the Modern Era of UFOs”. Robert Oppenheimer helped to develop the “ending of worlds”, Kenneth Arnold had introduced the concept of “other worlds”. Both their human lives were now part of history. Was it possible that these two men were linked together in a time frame of destiny?
I proceeded to keep reading and shuffling papers. I now found a letter dated June 27, 1947. The ink had aged to a beautiful lavender color and the letterhead said, The Olympian Society, Inc., Mount Olympus, Temecula, California. It had been typed up and mailed to my father just three days after his sighting. This letter was signed by the President of the Olympian Society, Mr. Everett H. Lea and notarized with an official seal:
Dr J. Robert Oppenheimer Kenneth A. Arnold
The Numbers
By Kenneth Arnold
Of those who often ponder over the things of sky and earth,
May we stop and reason wonder just where is our place of birth.
Did we come from out of the blue or were we all
but common clay to start the taming of the schrew
as man might call his dawning day.
How far is down…how far is up…no one seems to know,
The very fact that questions linger,
I feel the answers here when nowhere
must be somewhere and it seems I think it so…
That some place must be no place,
I think it all sounds queer,
We add, subtract and multiply and convince
ourselves we know.
When all the brains in all this world
can’t say why potatoes grow.

I thought who in the world was Everett H. Lea? This man claimed to know secrets about the flying saucers or “whatzits”. I will never know if my father filled-out his form and mailed it back. Was this really a valid address, Mt Olympus? Really? There was one paragraph that had gotten my full attention. I thought, great! He says the flying “whatzits” would prove to be a great blessing!
Paragragh 4:
“I do assure you these objects of the sky will never bring harm to anyone, but before we are out of the muddle we are now in they will prove to be a great blessing”.
It is a fact. No atomic bombs against nations have been used since the ending of World War II. The last nuclear devastation was unleashed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan in August of 1945. We now live in the future. Hydrogen bombs are the reality of the modern world.
The first hydrogen bomb exploded at Eniwetok atoll in the South Pacific on November 1, 1952. Our governments have been developing and stock piling thermonuclear weapons now for sixty years.
It is time; let us now give Robert Oppenheimer the golden stars of courage and recognition he has long deserved. He stood, as a man of moral character and strong ethics. He refused to develop the hydrogen bomb and said simply, “For what purpose?” The consequences were devastating. He was stripped of his government security clearance and rejected from their group.
In came Edward Teller to take his place. This scientist became known as “The Father of the Hydrogen Bomb”. The basic fact remains today. If there is ever an exchange of hydrogen bombs, millions of people will be “gone” in less than a wink of an eye. The ultimate power calculations of these weapons are government classified and remain “Top Secret”.
As common people we cannot even grasp the scientific magnitude of what we could be facing. It would be a war to end all wars. According to Albert Einstein it will wipe out two-thirds of the world’s entire population. It is possible when Mr. Einstein made this statement on April 24, 1950, he was being optimistic?
So, we continue living our simple, yet complex lives of self-pursuit and happiness. Let’s take a moment to pray. Maybe the governments cannot face losing their internet service. But, will the internet be enough of a motive to stop their complete insanity? My father, Kenneth Arnold would have said, perhaps, “that might be wishful thinking”.
So, what if my father and Robert Oppenheimer were both alive today? What would they say about our situation? First they both would agree our fears are concrete scientific facts. Our world governments do possess these kinds of weapons and we are living in a very physical world.
If Kenneth Arnold were with us today, how would he theorize this? Perhaps, a concept that would give us hope. I believe this is what he would say:
“Closer to "White Light", Dimensional doorways are opened…We see "Other Worlds".
Nuclear explosions open all dimensional doorways to every living organism. Since we are all Creators – everything of beauty or that we love will travel through the dimensional doorways with us because of the powerful dematerialization of the atom structure. It is our choice as to what doorway we feel most comfortable taking. We will all be flying in our etheric bodies closer to wholeness or "The God Source", "The White Light of Creation"… which is a constant flow of energies, movement, color and vibration – music – all the variety in tones and blending of the color spectrum ray energies.”
Why this theory?
My father used to visit with me as a young girl growing up. We were best friends. It was just a plain fact, he was an interesting and intelligent man. His ability to develop new theories stemmed from his thought provoking sighting of the flying saucers
One day, when I was about twelve, he began talking to me about his fascination with the color spectrum. From a scientific perspective, he was amazed how all the colors merged and blended into White Light. I listened to him with great interest.
He had a unique concept about what God truly was. To him, a ruler sitting on a throne did not sound very productive. It made more sense to him that God was a powerful energy source that radiated the beauty in nature, the colors and the energy of life. If God had indeed created us, then he truly loved us. We needed to believe in his Divine Order that things happened for a higher purpose.
THE INTERVIEW –
Wednesday, June 11, 1997
Idaho Statesman Newspaper
It was the 50th Anniversary of my father, Kenneth Arnold’s historical sighting. Tim Woodward was the Boise, Idaho reporter who developed the story. It was on the front page titled, “50 Years of UFOs Began with Boisean”.
The newspaper article was so big it took up three forths’ of the front page and one-half of the back page. The content was well written and the pictures carefully selected. I was 43 years old, and it was during this period in my life I was meeting interesting people. Most of them had seen flying saucers. They were coming into my life like magic. I tried to document everything I could because it was so fascinating.
In this Idaho Statesman article, Tim Woodward had interviewed a man named Rick Baker. I had met Rick at All Saints Episcopal Church by attending one of their church functions. He told me that as a young teenager he had delivered our newspaper on Ustick Road.
In the 1960’s Rick Baker believed my father was the neighborhood weirdo. He had a mixture of awe, skepticism and fear when he thought of delivering our newspaper. After all, Kenneth Arnold was the man who had seen flying saucers. Rick said when he delivered our newspaper he did it fast!
However, one day during the 60’s Rick saw strange lights in the sky. He was frightened, but overcame his fear and knocked on our front door. My father answered and Rick blurted out his UFO story. My dad patted him on the shoulder and said, “Eventually everyone will see them”. Rick then understood my father was an honest, sympathetic and understanding man.
What were the chances of me meeting Rick Baker, our newspaper boy in 1997 that had seen flying saucers in the 1960’s? If you had the formula to calculate this coincidence scientifically by numbers, it would be almost impossible.
This brings to mind, my father’s next poem I found. I named it “The Numbers”. It validates his belief about the mysterious energy of life.
